Senate Confirms Caroline Kennedy As Ambassador to Japan

Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of the late President John F. Kennedy, is the new U.S. ambassador to Japan.

Kennedy’s nomination to the post was confirmed unanimously by the Senate late Wednesday night, after the chamber voted to end the government shutdown and raise the debt limit. Kennedy was nominated for the post by President Barack Obama after assisting in his 2012 re-election bid, the Associated Press reports.

In her confirmation hearing, Kennedy said she would carry on her father’s legacy while representing the U.S. in Japan.
